Even the most anticipated trip can be overshadowed by the security check at the airport. It's even worse in case your luggage has to be left as it doesn't comply with the carriage rules. But any problem can be dealt with if you prepare yourself in advance. In this article, we will tell you what is forbidden to take with you on a plane, can you take food on the plane and what is allowed to be taken onboard without problems.
What can you take on a plane
All things that you take with you on trips can be divided into two categories: hand luggage and checked luggage. The list of what you can take on a plane is different for each category, so we should take a closer look at each category in detail.
What to pack in your carry on bag
Hand luggage is the cargo that the passenger takes to the cabin. Due to the increased security requirements, the number and list of allowed items is limited.
What to take on plane in hand luggage:
1. Food. What food can you take on the plane? Non-perishable food without a characteristic smell that would have disturbed other passengers. You can take snacks and sandwiches, but you will have to wait with something more nourishing until landing at your destination. 2. Liquids. How much liquid can I take on a plane? Water, shampoos, lotions the total amount of liquid per person should be not more than 1 liter. Suitable packaging — transparent bottles of 100 ml. All bottles must be packed in a transparent bag, which will be examined by the security service. 3. Clothes and accessories. Outerwear, hats, gloves, as well as jewelry, watches or sunglasses are allowed in your hand luggage on the plane. 4. Medication. The personal first-aid kit must contain drugs in their original packaging. It is preferable that there is a label with your name on a package. Prescription drugs must be accompanied by a prescription with the name of the passenger who is bringing them. Medical supplies (syringes, needles) can be taken to the cabin, but only after the security check.
You can take a smartphone, laptop or other electronic device to the cabin. Each item will be checked by the airport security. During the flight, smartphones can be used after the «airplane mode» is activated, which disables all wireless functions of the device: mobile communications, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
Internet access will be available upon landing. International roaming on a mobile phone can be expensive. It is important to check your mobile operator's rates and turn off roaming if necessary before boarding an aircraft.
In order not to overpay for roaming in other countries, you can use the Yesim application. Personal mobile Internet through the application will save your traffic costs abroad.
This is a common list that suits most airlines. But in some cases, there are additional restrictions on transportation. We recommend that you call the carrier company and clarify what is allowed for you to take on the plane.

What can be taken in checked baggage
The rules for the checked luggage you can take on a plane are less strict, so you will have more options. For checked luggage, the same things are permitted as for hand luggage, as well as additional items.
What can be taken in checked luggage:
- sports equipment — clubs, snowboards or skis, bicycles, everything that passes by the dimensions. By the sum of three dimensions (length/width/height) not more than 203 cm;
- tools — hand tools, small saws, wire cutters or scissors, soldering accessories and consumables;
- canned food.
If you have specific sports equipment (spears, crossbows) or tools (chainsaws), check with the airline in advance if you are allowed to take them on board. In this case, you will not have to fly without the things you need.
What you can't bring on a plane
Unlike allowed items, the list of what cannot be taken on a plane is much wider.
What not to pack in your carry on bag
What you can't bring on a plane:
1. Anything that can be regarded as a weapon. In addition to the obvious «firearms», hunting knives and axes, multitools, razors and blades, and awls are prohibited onboard. In this category, you can add «dual-use» sports equipment — bats, clubs, billiard cues. The same applies to tools and power tools that can do harm to passengers and the crew. Drills, saws and crowbars should be left in your checked baggage. 2. Any substance that can easily ignite and explode. Liquids, aerosols, deodorants, pepper spray or gas guns. 3. Electronic devices that can harm passengers and the crew.
You can take items weighing 5-10 kg with dimensions from 55x40x20 to 56x45x25 cm. If the dimensions are exceeded, things will not be allowed to the cabin. For example, bottles larger than 100 ml, even if they are not filled.
What is forbidden for the checked luggage of the aircraft
Consider what you can not take in the luggage of the aircraft:
1. Lithium batteries and all gadgets containing them. Usually, smartphones or laptops with these batteries should be unplugged and packed in their original packaging. If this is not possible, batteries can be packaged in individual plastic or paper wrappers. 2. Plants in pots, seeds. There is no explicit prohibition, so you should check with the company. 3. Live animals. They are transported separately in carriers, since transportation in the luggage compartment of an aircraft can be dangerous to their health and life. 4. Gas cans, including life jacket cans and hair and body sprays. Flammable liquids such as gasoline, kerosene, engine oils and nail polish. Explosives and firearms, including ammunition, pyrotechnics and firearms. Oxidizing agents, including hydrogen peroxide. Flammable solids such as matches and lighters (some airlines allow lighters to be carried in clothing pockets, but not in carry-on baggage).
